Yosemite Notes: The Things I Carry

October 23, 2017

The cracks in my skin and the chalk that settles there, skin woven, white lace over burning sand. These are the things I’ve remembered, among things I carry, ephemeral as the action of having written them down: … More Yosemite Notes: The Things I Carry

@Oyesaranda

As my race training comes to a height before tapering, I’ve visited three alpine summits over the past week. The first, Wind River Peak (13,120ft), has a special place in my heart as it was the first summit @emma.athena.mure and I crossed over during our 2019 Wind River High Route FKT experience. I wrote an essay about it and about what it meant for me to engage with the metaphor (& reality) of obstacle, of time, of kinship, of genetic predisposition, of maps, and of so many other things…But I’m happy to share that the essay will be in the next issue of @alpinistmag — which went off to the printer today! Visiting this land again last Friday meant so much to me, and I was able to set a new unsupported @fastestknowntime for Wind River Peak. I also brought my @renew_earth_running banner to celebrate what they stand for and do for indigenous communities. In my essay, I state that I’ve been in search of examples where “to come from” is “to rise from the past,” and this is what the #landback movement has come to mean to me: that which is intimately shared between the land and its indigenous peoples must be regenerated, celebrated, and protected. And of course we can all learn from and share in such land-and-kin relationships (I’d even say that the future of our climate and other aspects of life depends on these relationships!!!). My fundraiser for RER is up and running and you can find more about it through the link in my bio. 🙏🏽
I’d like to introduce the three folks that are collaborating with me for my @renew_earth_running fundraiser!
Throughout the month of August, I will be fundraising for my second year as a @renew_earth_running team member! I am racing the @runtherut 50k on September 4th, 2022, and have a more ambitious fundraising goal this year of $1500 (and an ambitious goal to finish the race around the 8-hour mark!). I have teamed up with a few collaborators: @therenearanda @almatierrarte @beccajay.getuptraining — artists and personal trainer — to provide a list of incentives for your donations. Follow the link in my bio to see what your donations could earn you! Muchas gracias / Thank you so much and I look forward to sharing more about each collaborator and about RER. 🙏🏽

Muchas gracias for the opportunity to experience the Four Pass Loop for the first time yesterday, and with a great group of gals. Que linda la tierra.
Swipe for a photo of us 7 years ago eating ice cream on a date haha. But today is actually the 6 year anniversary of our marriage 🥳 and I’m so so grateful for our love. @wakeofthecakes #cutiespatooties #nondairyicecream lol
